Description:

Job Title

To assist in preparing, cooking, and serving food in school cafeteria(s) in order to serve students and staff attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and warmth.

Qualifications/Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A proficiency in the handling of kitchen equipment and preparation of large quantities of food
  • Basic communication and computer skills

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Essential Functions

  • Prepares food according to a planned menu and tested, uniform recipes, and determines if the finished product is of best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served
  • Helps with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, and the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils
  • Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen
  • Maintains high standards of food quality and appearance. Utilizes cooking methods to preserve nutrient content
  • Utilizes work simplification techniques for effective use of time; completes work assignments in a timely manner
  • Operates all equipment according to manufacturer's directions with particular emphasis given to safety guidelines

General Responsibilities

  • Maintains high standards of personal hygiene. Follows hand washing protocol. Practices standards of dress, including shirts with sleeves, closed toe shoes, hair restraint, wearing an apron, and single use gloves when handling food
  • Attends job related training classes and workshops. Applies knowledge and/or skills obtained in performing job
  • Self-administers basic kitchen first aid.; immediately reports all accidents
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

  • Work with frequent interruptions
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Frequent standing, stooping bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in the presence of loud background noise
  • Ability to adapt to changes in room temperature

Terms of Employment

The cook will be issued an "employment-at-will" work agreement with the terms and conditions stated therein. Work shall begin when the school year begins. The Board will establish the salary or hourly rate.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy concerning evaluation of classified personnel
