Job Title: Machine Saw Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on safely and accurately operating metal-cutting saws to process materials according to detailed work orders and customer specifications. You will handle material from receipt through cutting and packaging, perform inventory control for each work order, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. The position operates in a warehouse and production environment with multiple shifts available, supporting a fast-paced operation that requires precision, consistency, and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material according to work order specifications.
• Operate saws and related processing equipment to cut materials to precise measurements and specifications.
• Properly and safely set up equipment to run material according to set-up notes and work instructions.
• Pull, inspect, and verify product before processing to ensure correct material and dimensions.
• Process set-up notes and follow written work instructions to meet customer and work order requirements.
• Verify that product meets set-up note specifications and record measurements according to the sampling plan.
• Use rulers, tape measures, and other measuring tools to ensure accurate cuts and dimensions.
• Read and interpret blueprints to run saws to specification and meet customer requirements.
• Perform inventory control for each work order, using basic math to track material usage and remaining stock.
• Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to move and stage materials safely.
• Properly enter and delete material identification tags per written instructions to maintain accurate records.
• Operate weighing scales and record inspection measurements accurately.
• Identify, record, and segregate scrap and any non-conforming material in accordance with procedures.
• Assist in the packaging of material according to written work instructions and work orders.
• Perform equipment preventive maintenance to ensure reliable and safe operation.
• Maintain issued measurement equipment in proper working condition.
• Keep the processing area, equipment, and surrounding workspace clean, safe, and orderly.
• Perform general clean-up tasks as needed to support a safe and efficient work environment.
• Communicate with the appropriate sales representative regarding changes or clarification to orders when required.
• Provide feedback to supervision regarding machine efficiency, product quality, and process improvements.
• Complete job responsibilities in a manner that does not put yourself or others in an unsafe situation.
• Train other team members on equipment operation, processes, and safety when required.
• Assist in activities related to lean initiatives and quality improvement programs.
• Meet established employee attributes and competencies, including reliability, teamwork, and quality focus.
• Perform any other related tasks as assigned to support production and warehouse operations.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of saw operation experience, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Minimum of 2+ years of saw operation working around metals such as sheet metal and aluminum.
• At least 3+ years of warehouse experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
• Ability to operate metal-cutting saws safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in inventory control for each work order, including tracking material usage with basic math.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints to run saws to exact specifications.
• Ability to read and use rulers, tape measures, and other measuring tools accurately.
• Experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Ability to operate cranes and other lifting equipment safely.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and write to follow work instructions and complete documentation.
• Ability to perform basic math skills for measurements and inventory calculations.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Computer literacy sufficient to enter data and follow electronic work instructions.
• Capability to follow written work instructions, set-up notes, and sampling plans accurately.
• Commitment to working safely and maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous warehouse experience, especially in the metals industry.
• Previous forklift experience in a production or warehouse setting.
• Experience using handheld measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
• Experience with various saw types, including bandsaws and other industrial saws from similar companies.
• Machine operation, including machine setup and basic troubleshooting.
• Experience with related industrial equipment such as waterjet, press brake, punch press, drill press, and CNC machinery.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
• Ability to train others on equipment operation, safety, and quality procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and quality when inspecting and verifying materials.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, sales representatives, and team members.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse and production environment that operates multiple shifts. Standard shifts for this position include 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Some departments, such as material control and shipping, may operate on standard daytime hours around 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., depending on assignment. You will work around industrial metal-processing equipment, including saws, cranes, forklifts, weighing scales, and measuring tools in an active production setting. The pace is fast, with materials being cut to customer specifications and moved through the facility efficiently. The work area emphasizes safety and cleanliness, requiring you to maintain an orderly workspace and follow all safety procedures. Typical attire is appropriate for an industrial warehouse and production environment, with the expectation that you wear suitable work clothing and any required personal protective equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.20 - $22.20/hr.
