Job TitleAcademic Support SpecialistPosition FunctionThe Academic Support Specialist will collaborate with the building principal and educators in effecting positive academic change for students in the 10th Grade Cohort by developing interventions and utilizing Learning Center Support, to recover academic credits using online credit recovery resources. The Academic Support Specialist will work with staff in tracking academic data of students.Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesDisplays the ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionalsDisplays the ability to collaborate with all members of the school communityDemonstrates confidentiality when dealing with students, parents, and school employeesUnderstands and works with the various support systems available in the school and communityPossesses excellent interpersonal skillsProvides attendance support for chronically absent studentsServes as a School-to-Home Liaison which includes making and receiving phone calls and facilitating cohort home visits Academic:Possesses an understanding of educational curriculum and instructional methods, strength in mathematics is essentialAnalyzes and maintains academic progress and attendance dataProvides guidance and counseling for College and Career ReadinessAbility to set time frames, establish goals, and ensure that students track their progressAdditional DutiesAssists with additional duties as assigned by Administration of Assigned School.EquipmentThis position may require the ability to use SMART boards, scoring software, and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine.
