Configure, manage, and optimize Akamai services including Ion, Web Application Framework (WAF), Edge DNS, Bot Manager, and Kona Site Defender.
Serve as the technical SME for Akamai, contributing to discussions and decisions on how Akamai can be leveraged within the broader application delivery and security strategy.
Partner with DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams to define integration approaches and performance tuning practices.
Analyze performance data and logs to identify optimization opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Advise on caching strategies, edge logic (EdgeWorkers), and other delivery configurations to enhance user experience and reliability.
Support incident response and troubleshooting for Akamai-related issues.
Document configurations, tuning adjustments, and operational best practices.
Provide informal mentorship and knowledge sharing for internal technical teams.
Stay current on new Akamai platform features and contribute recommendations for adoption or improvement.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
5+ years of experience in web infrastructure, DevOps, or cloud networking roles
2+ years of direct, hands-on experience administering and optimizing Akamai platform solutions (e.g., Ion, Kona Site Defender, WAF, Bot Manager, EdgeWorkers, or Edge DNS)
Strong understanding of CDN architecture, HTTP/S protocols, caching and routing strategies, security feature, and web performance optimization
Familiarity with DNS management, API delivery, and edge security concepts
Experience using Akamai APIs and basic scripting for automation (Python, Shell, or similar)
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills to collaborate effectively across technical teams
