About the Role:

The Senior SQL Developer is responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining the data architecture that powers the Medicaid Enterprise Data Warehouse (MEDW). This role plays a critical part in ensuring the availability, accuracy, and integrity of Medicaid program data for analytics, reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in SQL development, data modeling, and performance tuningcombined with experience working in large-scale healthcare or Medicaid data environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Development & ETL
    • Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, and functions to support data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
    • Build efficient data pipelines to process large volumes of Medicaid data (claims, eligibility, provider, encounters, MCO, TPL, pharmacy, etc.).
    • Support the integration of data from multiple source systems (MMIS, managed care, eligibility, provider enrollment, etc.) into the MEDW.
    • Work closely with data architects and ETL developers to implement scalable and reusable data solutions.
  • Performance Optimization & Maintenance
    • Conduct query performance tuning, indexing, and execution plan analysis to ensure high system performance.
    • Troubleshoot data integrity issues, performance bottlenecks, and system anomalies.
    • Monitor data load processes and resolve failures in collaboration with operations teams.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture
    • Participate in the design and enhancement of logical and physical data models to support Medicaid analytics and reporting.
    • Ensure adherence to data warehouse standards, naming conventions, and data normalization/denormalization practices.
    • Support metadata documentation and contribute to data lineage tracking.
  • Collaboration & Support
    • Collaborate with business analysts, data scientists, and BI/reporting developers to meet functional and analytical requirements.
    • Translate functional and business requirements into technical design specifications.
    • Support testing activities (unit testing, system testing, UAT) and assist with production release deployments.
    • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior developers and data engineers.

Basic Qualifications for Consideration:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in SQL development, with at least 3+ years in data warehouse or large-scale healthcare data environments.
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL Server, Oracle.
  • Strong experience developing complex stored procedures, views, and ETL logic for large relational databases.
  • Proven experience in query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning.
  • Working knowledge of data modeling principles.
  • Experience with data integration tools such as Informatica.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid or healthcare data (claims, encounters, eligibility, provider, MCO, TPL, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on Medicaid Enterprise Systems (MES) or Medicaid Data Warehouse (MDW) projects.
  • Knowledge of federal and state Medicaid reporting requirements (e.g., T-MSIS, CMS-64, CMS-21).
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality frameworks, and metadata management tools (e.g., Dataedo).
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle PL/SQL Developer, etc.) preferred.
