Job Summary
The Director of Dining Services is an exciting leadership opportunity for an energetic, entrepreneurial manager eager to improve business operations. This role is responsible for the successful management of Dining Services for a potential new K12 food service account in Wichita, KS. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction through efficient, cost-effective management, overseeing all food service activities including school cafeterias, retail, and catering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage salaried managers and hourly associates within the Food Service Department.
- Oversee the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the account.
- Conduct interviews, hire, train, assign work, evaluate performance, and manage staff relations including rewards, discipline, and conflict resolution.
- Prepare and manage the annual budget.
- Utilize company systems for reporting on inventory, cash flow, production, payroll, and other operational metrics.
- Oversee and participate in the preparation and serving of food and beverages, ensuring adherence to company standards, sanitation, safety (HACCP and OSHA), and portion control.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. Degree in Food Services Technology/Management or related field; or A.A. Degree with four years of related experience per USDA guidelines.
- Five to seven years of direct food service management experience, including inventory and purchasing control.
- Strong knowledge of food and catering trends, quality standards, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
- Experience with P&L accountability or contract-managed services is desirable.
- Proven supervisory, leadership, management, and coaching skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, clients, customers, and staff at all levels.
- Strong financial, budgeting, and accounting skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, email, and internet.
- ServSafe Certification.
