Addictions Counselor

Description:

Job Objective: The Addictions Counselor provides evidence-based counseling and support to individuals in a residential treatment setting, facilitating recovery from substance use disorders. This role is responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and leading therapeutic interventions to promote long-term sobriety and wellness.

Essential Functions:

  • Completes client intake including program orientation
  • Completes and updates client recovery plans according to standard
  • Develops and implements recovery programming and individual recovery plans for clients
  • Monitors and enforces the program policies, procedures, and rules; implements corrective action with clients as appropriate
  • Ensures client services and activity is documented and updated according to standard
  • Organizes and conducts social and cultural activities to promote sobriety and awareness about substance use
  • Maintains required client records and/or data in a secure manner
  • Completes all program reports as required
  • Provides referrals and coordinates care with other agencies for clients according to policy
  • Maintains open communication with supervisors and Recovery Home Team as it relates to the necessary flow of the job and programs
  • Networks with internal and external programs that can benefit the clients in the Recovery Home
  • Coordinates with the Recovery Home Team to develop complimentary educational, vocational, recreational, spiritual, and support options for clients in the Recovery Home both within the program and the community
  • Coordinates and develops peer mentoring and recovery support services
  • Remains current on individual, group, and family recovery support approaches
  • Utilizes effective retention techniques and evidence-based approaches to maintain participation such as motivational interviewing techniques and will incorporate ROSC principles throughout the process
  • Attends community meetings as requested
  • Performs other related duties and other duties as requested and/or necessary

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's degree in a human service field; may consider relevant experience in lieu of degree

Experience: Direct or indirect experience with addiction and recovery; minimum five years' sobriety; minimum two years' experience providing addiction treatment

Certifications/Licenses: National Certified Recovery Specialist (NCRS), or Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor (LDAC)

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Include the ability to sustain physical activity both inside and outside for extended periods of time. Work requires ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel and lift up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Driving is required; employee must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence; must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business

Working Conditions: The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low to medium noise level. Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and substance abuse or addiction.
