We are currently looking for a Safety Director based in Wichita, KS that will support all Hampel Oil facilities.


Purpose of Position:

The Safety Director position is responsible for proactively developing, implementing and overseeing all aspects of the company's safety culture while ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards. The Safety Director is heavily involved in communicating company expectations to complete work in a safe manner, use of stop work authority, resolving unsafe work situations and incident/injury prevention efforts at all branch locations. Daily activities focus on process analysis, hazard analysis, accident/citation review and resolution, training, and regulatory and policy compliance with interactions primarily with safety team members, drivers, company and branch leadership.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and ensure a consistent safety culture throughout company locations by emphasizing programs and policies that are consistent with company cultural values, a team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve safety goals
  • Ensure all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices are current and meet the needs of the company, our vendors and customers along with local, state and federal agencies
  • Set the tone for ensuring all employees are current with safety training requirements of the company, our vendors and customers by providing safety materials and developing, scheduling and administering safety systems and training to promote safe work performance
  • Produce and oversee Corporate Safety Incentives and programs and ensure they are managed effectively and consistently, including assignment of Safety Score
  • Promote safety awareness through internal company memos, newsletters, and specific training programs, including implementation of a hazard communication program; sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured
  • Participate in investigation and reporting of all vehicular and employee accidents/incidents for determination of cause and preventability, identifying potential trends and addressing them in future training efforts
  • Other duties as required



What We Are Looking For:

  • Previous experience in developing, implementing and overseeing a corporate safety program required
  • Experience with SDSs, JSAs, Workers Compensation, OSHA, MSHA, DOT and EPA regulatory requirements on a practical basis necessary
  • Resides as the company expert in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and regulations
  • High degree of attention, skill, and dexterity in controlling company vehicles and in preventing damage to products and company equipment, vehicles, and buildings
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with an assortment of variables
  • Working knowledge of safety procedures including operating a forklift, using body harnesses and using safe rigging techniques


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety or related field; or 10 years minimum of continuous related experience in similar safety positions; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver's license – Commercial preferred
  • Must have acceptable current driver's license and be insurable under company insurance standards
  • Understanding of DOT regulations related to fuel and trucking industries required
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required and additional education in understanding OSHA requirements related to the fuel and trucking industries preferred
  • Must live in Wichita, KS area
